WASHINGTON (LocalHerald via Reuters) – Two top Biden administration officials got behind the wheel of new electric vehicles (EVs) at the Washington DC Auto Show on Wednesday to urge Americans to consider buying a zero-emission model.
Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm and White House Climate Adviser Ali Zaidi circled around in a Ford F-150 Lightning and a Chevrolet Bolt while touting the $7,500 refurbished electric vehicle tax credits and new vehicle credits second hand electrics for $4000.
The couple also sat down and walked around other electric vehicles produced by Toyota Nissan, Subaru, Hyundai and others.
They also noted that since President Joe Biden took office, companies have announced nearly $130 billion in investments in electric vehicles in the US, including $56 billion in electric vehicle manufacturing and $72 billion in battery production.
“All of these companies are announcing that they are now setting up shop in the United States,” Granholm told LocalHerald via Reuters. “It’s electric vehicles, it’s the guts of the electric vehicle, it’s the guts of the battery — the entire supply chain is now located in the United States.”
